Location: North Greenwich, London, (50% office attendance model)

Contract Type: Permanent TFL Band 3

Department Overview – Networks And Hosting

The IT Networks and Hosting team, within TP&O are responsible for Microsoft (including Windows, Azure and SQL), AWS, Oracle and LINUX technologies managing and maintaining TfL’s core infrastructure at a virtual and physical layer.

The core servers we use includes Hyper Converged Infrastructure and full Windows Environments, hosting over 400 of TfLs Mission Critical and Business Critical services including The Elizabeth Line, London Underground, Overground, Buses and Oyster/Contactless which ultimately keep TfL services running.

The Team (Wintel Platform)

The Wintel platform team is made up of approximately 20 Windows IT Infrastructure platform specialists, working together across multiple workstreams including day to day operational activities and Project Delivery.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our Networks & Hosting team. The IT Infrastructure Engineer is a Technical Specialist within Networks and hosting and is responsible for contributing to their Technical Team’s overall targets and objectives.

The role holder is responsible for monitoring the day-to-day technical health and performance of the technology products and services within their area of responsibility and on behalf of Networks and Hosting.

The role holder is expected to be able to operate independently with the responsibility of working to and delivering set priority tasks to time and quality in support of the business and TfL IT Infrastructure requirements.

Key Duties

  • Supports and maintains enterprise infrastructure technologies across network, hosting, virtualisation, and cloud environments.
  • Monitors service health, availability, performance, and capacity to ensure operational excellence.
  • Resolves incidents, fulfils service requests, manages problems, and supports change activities in line with IT Service Management processes.
  • Executes lifecycle management and technology refresh activities.
  • Contributes to the implementation and enhancement of infrastructure solutions and services.
  • Supports infrastructure projects, upgrades, migrations, and service improvements.
  • Participates in root cause analysis and helps identify permanent solutions to recurring technical issues.
  • Supports vulnerability remediation and work closely with cyber security teams to maintain a secure infrastructure environment.
  • Maintains service resilience, disaster recovery capabilities, and operational readiness.
  • Works closely with IT architects, vendors, service providers, and internal technology teams.
  • Contributes ideas for automation, process improvement, and operational efficiencies.
  • Shares technical knowledge and supports colleagues across the wider technology organisation.
