IT Lead | Life Sciences | Predominantly Remote
What if your next IT role gave you the opportunity to build the function, rather than simply inherit one?
I’m working with a growing life sciences company looking for an IT Lead to take ownership of its technology environment and build the foundations needed for its next stage of growth.
This isn’t a traditional IT Manager role, and it isn’t purely strategic. They’re looking for someone who still enjoys being hands-on with the technology, but is ready to step up and take broader ownership.
You’ll have responsibility across:
- Cloud and IT infrastructure
- Cybersecurity and the company’s ISO 27001 journey
- Microsoft 365, identity, access and internal systems
- Hardware, networking and connectivity across two UK sites
- Vendors, support and day-to-day IT operations
- Reliability, automation and improving how technology is delivered
- Building a scalable IT roadmap as the company grows

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The environment today is relatively small, which is exactly what makes the opportunity interesting: you’ll have the autonomy to shape how things should be done rather than working within layers of existing process.
You might currently be an IT Team Lead, Infrastructure Lead, IT Operations Lead or Senior Infrastructure Engineer who has already taken significant ownership of an environment and is ready to make the step into leading one.

Experience within life sciences, healthcare or another regulated environment would be useful, but mindset, breadth and ownership are more important than coming from a particular industry.
