IT Manager (Site Lead)
- £68-£78,000 Basic + Benefits + Manufacturing and Engineering + Ellesmere Port + Long Term Career Opportunity + Expanding Company
Company
Our client is a successful and growing international manufacturing business operating at the forefront of specialist materials and advanced industrial technology. As part of a wider US-owned group, the business is entering an exciting period of investment and development, with technology playing an increasingly important role in supporting the site's future growth. This is an opportunity within an established industrial operation where there is significant scope to make a tangible impact.
Role
We are looking for an IT Manager to take full ownership of IT across the Ellesmere Port site. This is an unusually autonomous opportunity: the site has historically operated with limited IT structure and infrastructure, and the successful individual will have the mandate to transform, modernise and professionalise the technology environment. You will be the primary IT presence on site, supporting users across the operation while working closely with Group IT in the US. With an open investment mindset and budget available to deliver the right solutions, you will have genuine freedom to assess the current environment, establish priorities and implement the infrastructure, systems, processes and standards needed for a modern manufacturing site. The role covers everything from Microsoft 365, Windows, networking, infrastructure and cyber security through to vendors, projects, business continuity and support for industrial/OT technology. This is a hands-on role, but equally one where you can shape the IT roadmap and leave a legacy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Person
We are looking for an experienced hands-on IT generalist / Site IT Lead who is comfortable being the person everyone turns to and who enjoys working with a high degree of autonomy. You will ideally have experience supporting a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment and have previously operated as a sole or lead IT resource. Strong knowledge of Windows, Microsoft 365, networking, infrastructure and end-user support is essential, alongside the confidence to manage external suppliers and deliver projects. More importantly, you will be a self-starter who can walk into an environment that needs structure, assess what is required, build relationships and then take ownership of transforming the site's IT capability. This is an opportunity for someone who wants more than a BAU support position someone who wants the autonomy, investment and influence to build something significantly better.
