I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Therefore, Indra will become TfL's strategic technology partner to guarantee the operation and evolution of the world's largest and most sophisticated ticketing system. Following a transition period of approximately two years, Indra will serve as the sole provider across the network that includes more than 8,500 buses, nearly 400 Underground stations, around 300 rail stations (Overground, DLR, Elizabeth Line and suburban services), 4,000 Oyster Card outlets, seven customer service centres, and 24 river boat boarding points.
Drawing on over 30 years of experience in urban public transport solutions, Indra will manage and evolve all aspects of the system. The project also envisages, in partnership with TfL, the implementation of new technologies to develop the system, make it more efficient and automate key processes; in short, to jointly create the next generation of the ticketing system for London.
Role Overview
We are seeking an IT Network Manager to lead the delivery, transition and operation of enterprise network services, ensuring that network infrastructure is secure, resilient and capable of supporting business operations.

The emphasis is on maximising shadowing and reverse-shadowing value, capturing knowledge effectively, validating operational processes and supporting a smooth, low-risk transition into Business-as-Usual operations.
The position will progressively evolve from transition leadership into ongoing operational leadership and management of the network service.

- Team and supplier management: Manage network engineers and third-party suppliers, acting as the primary point of contact between engineering teams, suppliers, service management functions and customer stakeholders
- Knowledge transfer and operational readiness: Plan, coordinate and govern service transition activities, including shadowing, reverse-shadowing, operational validation and service acceptance, ensuring effective knowledge transfer from incumbent suppliers
- Operational procedures and service preparation: Ensure operational readiness, service acceptance criteria, support documentation and knowledge transfer activities are completed successfully and can support a controlled handover into BAU operations
- Service management governance: Oversee incident, problem, change and service request management processes, and ensure compliance with security, operational and business requirements
- Infrastructure governance and project coordination: Coordinate upgrades, service improvements and network-related projects, while reviewing and governing network architectures and technical solutions
- Risk, performance and stakeholder communication: Manage network risks, issues, dependencies and service performance; provide regular reporting and stakeholder communication
- Continuous service improvement: Support the development and implementation of continuous service improvement initiatives focused on service quality, resilience and sustainable operations
