From the multi-cultural strength of our global organisation to the sustainable and innovative ways we work to bring people together, there’s something for everyone to get stuck into. Job Description

Your new role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Networking & Infrastructure Engineer to join Hitachi Rail on a 12-month fixed term contract, supporting a critical cyber security and network infrastructure transformation programme across our UK locations.

This role can be based from any of our major Hitachi Rail sites; however, it will require extensive travel throughout the UK and frequent overnight stays. You will play a key role in assessing and enhancing our existing network infrastructure, working closely with our Cyber Security team to strengthen our security posture across the business.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced networking professional who enjoys a varied, project-based environment and wants to make a tangible impact across a multi-site organisation.

Some key responsibilities

  • Travel to Hitachi Rail locations across the UK to assess and document existing network infrastructure.
  • Conduct network discovery and infrastructure scoping activities to establish current-state environments.
  • Work closely with the Cyber Security team to deploy and integrate vulnerability monitoring and security appliances across corporate and operational networks.
  • Support the implementation of network improvements and remediation activities identified through security assessments.
  • Provide technical expertise across Cisco networking technologies, wireless infrastructure and Fortinet firewall environments.
  • Configure and support FortiGate firewalls, including firewall policies, VPNs, routing and security controls.
  • Support incident, problem and change management activities relating to network infrastructure.
  • Maintain network security standards through patching, hardening and vulnerability remediation activities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, third-party suppliers and wider IT teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Produce accurate technical documentation, network diagrams and implementation records.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
