The IT Project Manager position

The IT Project Manager position is an integral part of the Information Technology team, reporting directly to the IT Technical Portfolio Project Manager. This role is pivotal in overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of IT projects, ensuring they are aligned with organisational objectives and completed within the established timelines and budget constraints. The IT Project Manager will lead cross-functional teams, efficiently manage project resources, and maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders to ensure the successful achievement of project goals.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive project plans, taking input from technical and firmwide resources, detailing scope, roles, responsibilities, budgets, timescales and resources
  • Analysing, refining and liaising on business requirements, translating these into project requirements and successful project delivery
  • Analysing business operations to understand their strengths and weaknesses, and identifying opportunities to automate processes and functions
  • Liaising between the firm and IT in order to provide technical solutions that meet user needs
  • Assisting in the business process redesign and documentation as needed for new technology
  • Selling the benefits of projects to relevant sections of the firm to gain commitment
  • Obtaining sign off from sponsors of projects and key contacts within the firm
  • Providing regular communication to stakeholders throughout the project life cycle
  • Identifying, analysing, measuring, managing and communicating project risks
  • Ensuring that key milestones are completed on time and in accordance with defined requirements and agreed budgets
  • Assigning tasks to the various people involved in the project
  • Managing the competing profiles of multiple projects
  • Ensuring the smooth handover of the project into production
  • Carrying out a post project analysis
  • Educate the IT department on the direction of the business

Essential

  • Successful project delivery using project management methodologies
  • Experience in running a diverse portfolio of projects including application development, software configuration and implementation, infrastructure deployment, office moves etc
  • Good IT skills, in particular legal software including the following Document Management, Practice Management, Conflict Checking and Billing Systems
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office business applications, including MS Project

Desirable

  • Business Analysis qualifications desirable
  • Desirable knowledge of technologies such as iManage/ Sharepoint/ Active Directory/ Messaging/ Virtualisation/ LAN and WANs
  • Price Foundation or Practitioner qualifications are highly desirable

Person specification

  • Able to deal with conflicting requirements
  • Broad technical understanding and the ability to communicate with technical staff
  • Excellent process mapping skills
  • An understanding of the legal sector
  • Proven project leadership skills
