Job Description
Apprenticeship Standard: Level 3 – IT / Software Testing Pathway
Location: Crewe
Department: IT
Programme Duration: 15 months
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated IT Quality Assurance Apprentice to join our IT department in Crewe. This Level 3 apprenticeship is ideal for someone starting their career in IT who is interested in software testing, quality assurance, and how digital products are delivered.
You will gain hands-on experience while developing core IT and testing skills through a structured apprenticeship programme, supported by experienced colleagues across QA, development, Product, and DevOps teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in creating, executing, and maintaining automated and manual tests
- Support the testing of new functionality developed by the IT team
- Help review and understand requirements alongside Product and pre-development teams before work enters development
- Identify, log, and track defects using agreed tools and processes
- Learn how testing fits into the software development lifecycle
- Work with DevOps and development managers to support smooth and reliable releases
- Take part in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
- Follow established quality, security, and IT best practices

Apprenticeship Learning Focus
Throughout the Level 3 apprenticeship, you will develop:
- An understanding of IT systems and software applications
- Fundamental software testing principles and techniques
- Basic test automation concepts and tools
- Defect management and test documentation skills
- Knowledge of Agile ways of working
- Communication and teamwork skills within an IT environment
Qualifications
Entry Requirements
This role is suitable for candidates who:
- Have an interest in IT, technology, or software
- Have, or are working towards, GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English, Computer Science.
- Are organised, detail-focused, and keen to learn
- Can communicate clearly and work well as part of a team
- Are motivated to build a career in IT or quality assurance
No previous IT or testing experience is required — full training and support will be provided.
