We’re entering an exciting new chapter as we continue to evolve our applications landscape, including the implementation of a major new platform across the organisation. We’re looking for a Quality Engineering Manager to establish and lead a modern, risk-based quality engineering function that improves testing confidence, delivery speed and overall product quality.
This is a key leadership role within the IT Applications department, responsible for defining and embedding test strategy, standards and governance across internal teams and external suppliers. You will shape how we use automation, tooling and emerging AI capability to improve quality, coverage and efficiency across the software development lifecycle.
You’ll lead and develop our testing capability, working closely with delivery teams, business stakeholders and third-party suppliers to ensure testing is well planned, effectively controlled and focused on the areas of greatest risk and member impact.
Reporting to the Head of Applications & Reporting, you will:
- Own and lead the organisation-wide quality engineering and testing approach, ensuring a clear, risk-based strategy is embedded across delivery teams and suppliers.
- Define and maintain test standards, governance and assurance practices, supporting consistent adoption across projects, products and change activity.
- Shape and evolve the use of test automation, tooling and AI-enabled capability to improve quality, coverage, efficiency and confidence in delivery.
- Lead end-to-end test planning and delivery across complex programmes, ensuring testing is controlled, appropriately resourced and aligned to business priorities.
- Lead, coach and develop the testing team, building strong quality engineering capability and a culture of continuous improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
