Role: IT Service Desk (IBM i / Power Systems)

Location: Milton Keynes - Office Based

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 plus Bonus

An established managed services provider is looking to recruit an experienced Service Desk Consultant with proven IBM i (AS/400/Power Systems) expertise to join its growing technical operations team.

This is a hands-on technical support role where you'll provide 1st and 2nd line support for enterprise IBM i environments, working with customers across finance, manufacturing, and retail. You'll take ownership of incidents from diagnosis through to resolution, proactively monitor critical systems, and ensure high availability, backup, and disaster recovery services are operating effectively.

This role would suit someone with a strong IBM i infrastructure background who enjoys solving complex technical issues whilst delivering first-class customer service.

  • Provide 1st and 2nd line technical support for IBM i managed service customers.
  • Proactively monitor customer IBM Power Systems and cloud-hosted environments.
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve hardware, operating system, and infrastructure issues.
  • Manage incidents through to successful resolution, ensuring SLA targets are achieved.
  • Perform IBM i operating system patching, upgrades, and routine maintenance.
  • Administer and support backup, storage management, high availability, and disaster recovery environments.
  • Develop automation scripts and monitoring processes to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation and operational procedures.
  • Work closely with infrastructure, cloud, and project teams to deliver technical solutions for customers.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Commercial experience supporting IBM i (AS/400 / Power Systems) is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of IBM i OS, Work Management, Performance Management, and BRMS.
  • Experience administering enterprise IBM Power environments.
  • Knowledge of SQL, CL programming, SSL, Key Management, and IBM i security.
  • Experience supporting PowerVM virtualization.
  • Exposure to MIMIX High Availability solutions.
  • Experience with IBM Storewize storage platforms (V5000/V7000 or similar).
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring tools such as Halcyon and/or Zabbix.
  • Previous experience working within a Managed Services or Technical Operations environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex infrastructure and hardware issues.
  • Experience using ITSM platforms such as Jira or similar.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer-focused approach.
