Job Description

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and analytical IT Software Asset Analyst to join our Technology team and play a vital role in ensuring our software estate is effectively governed, compliant and optimised.

Reporting to the IT Asset Manager, you will be responsible for managing software licensing compliance and optimisation across the organisation, with a particular focus on Microsoft desktop, server and Azure cloud technologies. You will ensure software assets are accurately tracked, licence entitlements are maintained and reconciled, and software investments deliver maximum value while minimising organisational risk.

Working closely with Engineering, Architecture, Procurement and Project teams, you will provide expert guidance on software licensing and entitlement considerations, helping ensure technology solutions are deployed responsibly, cost-effectively and in line with organisational policies and regulatory requirements.

A key part of the role will involve monitoring software usage and consumption patterns, identifying opportunities to optimise licence utilisation and reduce unnecessary expenditure. You will support software renewals and vendor engagements by providing accurate forecasting, compliance positions and usage analysis, helping the organisation make informed investment decisions.

You will also play an important role in maintaining audit readiness, ensuring licensing records, entitlement documentation and software asset management data remain accurate and up to date. Working alongside Hardware Asset Analysts and wider IT Asset Management colleagues, you will help create a joined-up approach to asset governance that supports operational efficiency, compliance and effective decision-making.

About You

You are an experienced Software Asset Management professional who understands the importance of balancing licence compliance, commercial value and operational effectiveness. You should have a strong understanding of software licensing principles and hands-on experience managing licence compliance within complex enterprise environments. In particular, you have expertise across Microsoft licensing models, including Microsoft 365, Windows Server, SQL Server, Azure and Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) licensing arrangements. You are confident interpreting entitlement data, assessing licensing impacts and advising stakeholders on the most appropriate licensing solutions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Experienced in working with Software Asset Management platforms such as Snow, Flexera, ServiceNow SAM Pro or similar tooling, you understand the importance of accurate discovery, reconciliation and entitlement management. You are comfortable configuring and maintaining licensing libraries, validating software deployments and investigating discrepancies across multiple data sources.

With an analytical mindset which allows you to assess software usage and consumption trends, identify underutilised or duplicate licences and recommend practical solutions that improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Experience working within regulated environments, particularly financial services, would be advantageous, as would relevant Software Asset Management, Microsoft Licensing or ITIL certifications.
