Technical Solutions Architect
A leading energy trading and biofuels organisation is seeking a Technical Solutions Architect to join its London team. You will provide technical oversight of the local IT landscape, coordinate closely with central Group IT and external partners, and support the delivery and evolution of secure, effective technology solutions.
You’ll work in a fast-moving trading environment with a strong focus on sustainability, innovation, and modernisation—helping enable business outcomes through pragmatic, well-governed architecture and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain an end-to-end view of the local technology landscape: infrastructure, networks, applications, cloud services, integrations, data flows, and third-party dependencies.
- Act as a technical interface with Group/central IT teams, ensuring local initiatives align with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity standards, and strategy.
- Drive modernisation by identifying opportunities for simplification, automation, cloud adoption, and improved integration.
- Translate business needs into clear technical requirements; contribute to assessment, design, and implementation of solutions.
- Support evaluation and adoption of new applications, cloud services, and AI-enabled solutions, considering feasibility, integration, security, and operational impact.
- Support lifecycle activities (upgrades, migrations, rationalisation, decommissioning) to reduce legacy complexity and enable future capability.
- Coordinate technical delivery with internal stakeholders and external providers, ensuring clear ownership and effective governance.
- Support incident/problem resolution requiring cross-technology analysis (root cause, dependencies, longer-term fixes).
- Maintain technical documentation (architecture diagrams, solution documents, inventories, roadmaps).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
