IT Support Engineer - 1st Line
Central London
£35,000 - £40,000 + Benefits
Are you an approachable IT support professional who combines strong technical ability with outstanding customer service? Can you remain calm under pressure, explain solutions clearly and reassure people when technology lets them down?
Our client is a leading barristers’ chambers based in Central London. It is looking for an IT Support Engineer to join its small, experienced in-house IT team, providing responsive, high-quality support to barristers and staff.
This is predominantly a first-line position with genuine exposure to second-line work. You will initially handle incoming requests and carry out practical troubleshooting, but as your knowledge develops, you will have the opportunity to work across Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra, Azure and the organisation’s wider IT infrastructure.
The role would suit someone with one to two years’ IT support experience who is ready to build broader technical knowledge within a professional, fast-paced environment. Previous chambers or legal-sector experience is not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing first and second-line IT support by telephone, email, remote access and in person
- Troubleshooting issues affecting Windows and macOS computers, mobile devices and business software
- Supporting Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel
- Logging support requests and recording accurate updates within the internal ticketing system
- Following up regularly to ensure issues have been resolved to the user’s satisfaction
- Completing routine processes including user onboarding and offboarding, account administration and device setup
- Advising users on good working practices and IT security procedures
- Carrying out wider device checks to identify and prevent further issues
- Escalating more complex problems appropriately while developing the skills to resolve them independently

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You don’t need to know everything from day one. Training and support will be provided by experienced colleagues, but you must already understand the fundamentals of IT troubleshooting and be capable of contributing within a busy support environment.
Customer service is central to this position. You will be supporting professionals whose work can be significantly disrupted by even a minor technical issue, so patience, resilience and the ability to inspire confidence are every bit as important as your technical knowledge.
