IT Support Engineer (Hardware)

Location: Milton Keynes area (field-based with vehicle provided)

Duration: 6-months initial (likely extensions)

Rate: £250 a day (inside IR35)

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Field Hardware Support Engineer to provide hands-on IT hardware support across our organisation. This is a dynamic, fast-paced, field-based role, ideal for someone who thrives on autonomy, problem-solving, and working directly with technology in a variety of environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site setup, deployment, and troubleshooting of laptops, desktops, and mobile devices.
  • Handle physical installation and configuration of monitors, cabling, and peripherals.
  • Carry and manage spare devices and stock for daily site visits.
  • Plan and adapt daily routes based on support requirements and high-priority escalations.
  • Deliver reliable and consistent support under minimal supervision.
  • Respond flexibly to urgent requests, including executive or VIP support needs.

Requirements

  • Recent hands-on experience (within the last 2–3 years) with laptops, desktops, mobile devices, and peripherals.
  • Practical knowledge of patching and system updates is a plus.
  • Proven experience in physical hardware support – remote support alone is not sufficient.
  • Ability to work independently, manage own schedule, and prioritize tasks under pressure.
  • Comfortable carrying equipment and working alone in a field environment.

Training

  • 2–3 weeks of onboarding covering internal systems, tooling, and procedures.
  • Candidates must be proficient in basic hardware handling prior to joining.
