IT Support Engineer – Laboratory & Infrastructure
About the role
Avatrial exists to save the lives of patients with cancer by accelerating the global mission towards superior, personalised treatments. We are building a unique end-to-end cancer drug discovery platform that combines access to high-quality human tissue samples, full-stack multi-omic data generation, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and rapid experimental validation to identify and develop better cancer therapies, faster.
As we grow, we are looking for an IT Support Engineer – Laboratory & Infrastructure to join us on site. You will support technology across the office, the laboratory and the infrastructure that connects them. That covers supporting our people and their devices, running the network and server room, and keeping laboratory systems and scientific instruments working and securely connected. You will work directly with our Head of IT.
You’ll work hands-on across Microsoft 365 and Intune, laboratory instrument PCs, networking and physical infrastructure, our planned LabWare LIMS environment and AWS-connected scientific data workflows.
We care more about how you think than what certificates and degrees you hold. We want someone who doesn't wait to be told something is broken. If an instrument's data transfer fails, we want you to notice, investigate, check the infrastructure, bring in the vendor if needed, fix it, and then tell us what failed.

What we're looking for
The successful candidate will ideally have at least 3+ years of hands-on IT support experience, particularly in an on-site second-line or similar role.
They will be comfortable troubleshooting Windows endpoints, Microsoft 365 and networking, and be willing to work physically with network equipment, cabling and hardware when needed. They'll need a working understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, subnetting, switching and Wi-Fi, together with sensible security practices around MFA, patching, privileged access and sensitive data. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting laboratory or scientific equipment, as well as experience with LIMS/ELN platforms, AWS, PowerShell/Python, firewall administration, regulated environments or cybersecurity is advantageous.
Formal qualifications and certifications are welcome but practical experience, judgement and troubleshooting ability matter more to us.
This is a hands-on role for somebody who enjoys understanding why things work, finding out why they don't, and taking ownership of getting them working again.

Salary:
£35,000–£45,000, depending on experience
