About The Role

Oscar Technology has partnered exclusively with a leading Managed Service Provider (MSP) near Colchester to recruit a skilled IT Field Engineer. This hybrid role offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated 2nd Line Support Engineer to join a dynamic team responsible for delivering high-quality IT support services to a diverse client base. In this position, you will be at the forefront of resolving complex technical issues, supporting both remote and on-site environments, and ensuring the smooth operation of clients' IT infrastructure. The role requires a proactive approach, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with users at all levels. You will be instrumental in maintaining the stability, security, and efficiency of IT systems, contributing to the overall success of the company's service delivery.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in IT support, backed by relevant certifications and hands-on experience. Essential qualifications include proven experience in a 2nd Line support role, with a strong understanding of desktop and laptop hardware, operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, Linux), and software applications. Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), or similar are highly advantageous. Familiarity with virtualization technologies like VMware and Hyper-V, along with networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and VPN, is required. Experience with Microsoft 365 troubleshooting, Active Directory management, and server administration is also essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to effectively liaise with users and team members, providing clear guidance and support.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake a variety of responsibilities aimed at maintaining and enhancing IT service quality. Key duties include:

  • Monitoring and responding to issues logged through ticketing systems and direct communication channels
  • Ensuring prompt resolution of incidents and user requests
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks such as applying updates to operating systems, software, and security tools, including anti-virus programs
  • Assisting with data retrieval, backup management—whether onsite or cloud-based—and ensuring adherence to IT policies, procedures, and security standards
  • Establishing and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, including diagrams and knowledge articles, to facilitate knowledge sharing and future troubleshooting
  • Providing support for virtualization platforms, network configurations, and server environments, ensuring the reliability and security of clients' IT infrastructure
