IT Technician
Location: North London - School-based
Department: IT / Nexus Team
Reports to: IT Manager / Nexus Team
DBS Requirement: Enhanced DBS check required
Job Purpose
The IT Technician will provide effective, hands-on technical support across the school, ensuring that staff and pupils have reliable, secure, and effective access to IT systems and educational technology.
Working as part of the Nexus IT team, the successful candidate will troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, network, and classroom technology issues that cannot be resolved by onsite staff or remote support. The role will also involve device deployment and management, Microsoft 365, Intune, and Entra administration, classroom AV support, cybersecurity, and general ICT administration.
The successful candidate will be customer-focused, technically capable, and able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users.
Key Responsibilities
User Support
- Provide first-class, hands-on technical support to staff across the school.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues that cannot be resolved by onsite staff or remote support.
- Provide support for Microsoft 365 applications and services, including Microsoft Teams and OneDrive.
- Support staff with printing and other day-to-day IT services.
- Provide technical support to new starters, including account, device, and software setup.
- Support staff with moves, changes, and equipment relocations.
- Investigate and resolve recurring technical issues and escalate appropriately where required.
- Provide support for issues including, but not limited to:
- Patch Tuesday remediation and Intune-related issues.
- Projector, display, and sound connection problems.
- New staff onboarding.
- Printing and Universal Print.
- Microsoft Teams and OneDrive issues.
- Moves and changes.
- Provide a professional, helpful, and customer-focused service at all times.

Device Management
- Configure, deploy, and maintain laptops, desktop PCs, tablets, and other ICT equipment.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of ICT equipment and ensure asset records are kept up to date.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain devices where appropriate.
- Set up and configure devices for new staff.
- Hybrid join appropriate devices to Active Directory and Entra.
- Enrol devices into Microsoft Intune and ensure they comply with school policies.
- Prepare existing devices for reuse by securely wiping, reloading, and reconfiguring them.
- Set up pupil laptops and onboard devices to Intune and Entra, including Autopilot preparation.
- Configure school-specific applications, settings, and systems on devices.
- Install required software and applications through Company Portal.
- Assist with device refreshes, replacements, and equipment lifecycle management.

Classroom Technology
- Provide hands-on technical support to teachers using educational technology.
- Support interactive displays, whiteboards, projectors, classroom PCs, speakers, and other AV peripherals.
- Diagnose and resolve classroom AV and connectivity issues.
- Assist with the maintenance and reliable operation of classroom technology.
- Provide guidance to staff on the effective use of educational technology where appropriate.
- Minimise disruption to teaching and learning caused by IT or AV issues.
Network and Infrastructure Support
- Assist with troubleshooting local network, Wi-Fi, and connectivity issues.
- Support network-connected devices including printers and IoT equipment.
- Assist with diagnosing issues across wired and wireless networks.
- Escalate infrastructure issues to the appropriate technical team or third-party supplier where required.
- Work within the school's network and security architecture, including VLANs, firewall infrastructure, and managed switches.
Cyber Security & Compliance
- Follow school and Nexus team policies relating to information security and data protection.
- Report security concerns, incidents, and vulnerabilities promptly.
- Assist in maintaining secure and compliant devices and user accounts.
- Follow safeguarding, data protection, and acceptable-use policies.
