About The Role
We are seeking experienced IT Systems Engineers to join our engineering capability at Leidos, specifically supporting our collaboration with Hackajob. The successful candidates will possess a comprehensive understanding of systems engineering principles, with previous experience in integrating software products from suppliers and accepting system components. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on full lifecycle systems engineering activities, with a primary focus on low-level system design, interface definition, and requirements management. The Systems Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including hardware, software, and network specialists, to ensure seamless integration and delivery of complex IT systems. The position is flexible, with the ability to work predominantly from home, supplemented by scheduled visits to our Farnborough office and customer sites as needed. This role is ideal for professionals eager to make a significant impact through innovative engineering solutions and to develop their expertise within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess at least three years of proven experience in a systems engineering role within IT or software systems. A solid understanding of systems engineering frameworks such as ICOSE, NAF, DODAF, MODAF, or MBSE is essential. Candidates should have a good working knowledge of both hardware and software technologies used in IT systems. Experience working within both Agile and Waterfall delivery models is preferred, demonstrating flexibility in project management approaches. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are vital, along with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. A bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, is required. Proficiency with system modeling tools like SysML, UML, Cameo, or Archimate is advantageous. Candidates should also be eligible to obtain security clearances, including NPPV2 and potentially MOD DV clearance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
