James Green

James is a specialist practitioner in employment, sports, and commercial law. He is ranked as a leading junior in employment in the Legal 500, and has particular expertise in discrimination law and business protection disputes. In addition to his domestic practice, James is frequently involved in cases in the DIFC and the ADGM.

- Obtaining an injunction under the Protection From Harassment Act 1997 in the context of an employment dispute, led by David Reade KC.
- Acting for an employer in litigation concerning complex financial instruments and an associated bonus dispute.
- Defending the highest value employment claim to date in the ADGM, led by James Bickford Smith.
- Acting for the defendants in a high-value civil fraud claim regarding the sale of PPE during the Covid-19 pandemic, led by Adam Solomon KC and Alex Robson.
- Advising on numerous prospective team move disputes in the DIFC.
Expertise
Statutory & High Court
James frequently acts for both employers and employees in complex and high-value litigation in the Employment Tribunal and civil courts, as well as in the DIFC and ADGM.
- Racha Al Khawaja v TPL Investment Management Ltd & Anor – acted for the Defendants in the highest value employment claim to date in the ADGM. The case concerned the termination of a CEO and the application of fiduciary duties to an unusual and generous incentive agreement.
- Acting for a major law firm in a complex claim for disability and marital status discrimination.
- Acting for an employer, led by Gavin Mansfield KC, in a High Court claim concerning the termination of a senior employee and a high-value and complex LTIP scheme.
- Acting for a senior executive in the pharmaceutical industry in a whistleblowing claim.
- Advising on a substantial bonus dispute in the DIFC in the context of a large-scale team move.

- Acting for the claimant in a case concerning an alleged conspiracy to replicate its confidential business model and online pay-per-click advertising strategy, led by David Reade KC and Lydia Banerjee.
Sport
James has experience acting in a range of sports disputes and investigations.
- Acting for a Premier League club in an FA Rule K arbitration, led by Adam Solomon KC.
- An investigation into allegations of discrimination at Yorkshire County Cricket Club, led by Mohinderpal Sethi KC.
- Acting for a boxer appealing anti-doping sanctions.

About
Education, Scholarships, & Prizes
James studied history at the University of Bristol, attaining a First Class degree, and a Master’s degree in American History at the University of Oxford. He later obtained a Distinction on the GDL from City University London. In the interim, he was awarded a scholarship by the Daiwa Foundation and lived in Japan for two years, where he studied Japanese and worked as a journalist.
Before joining Littleton, James spent a year working at the Court of Appeal as a judicial assistant to the former Lord Chief Justice, Lord Thomas, working on cases such as R(Miller) v Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union and R v Alexander Blackman.
