About the Company

Our client is a leading international energy trading organization with a strong presence across global power and commodity markets. As part of its expansion in Japan, the company is seeking an experienced proprietary power trader to drive profitable trading activities in one of Asia's most dynamic electricity markets.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute proprietary trading strategies within the Japanese power market.
  • Trade power products across JEPX, OTC, and related energy markets.
  • Identify directional and relative value trading opportunities to generate risk-adjusted returns.
  • Monitor supply-demand fundamentals, fuel markets, renewable generation, and regulatory developments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with market counterparties.
  • Execute physical and paper transactions to optimize positions and profitability.
  • Collaborate with APAC trading and analytics teams to enhance trading performance.
  • Ensure compliance with risk limits and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in proprietary power trading within Japan.
  • Strong record of generating P&L through speculative, discretionary, or directional trading.
  • Deep understanding of JEPX, OTC power markets, and key price drivers.
  • Experience managing outright, spread, and hedging positions.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and risk management skills.
  • Commercially driven and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Business-level Japanese and English language capability.
  • Existing network within Japan's energy trading market is highly advantageous.
