Java Solution Architect
Location: Bishopsgate, London
Work Mode: Hybrid – 6 days per month in the office
Contract Duration: 12 months
Role Overview
We are looking for experienced Java Solution Architects to join NatWest Group in London. The successful candidates will have strong expertise in Core Java, Java Microservices, AWS, cloud-native solutions, solution design, and system integration.
You will be responsible for translating business requirements into robust technical solutions and working closely with business architects, technology delivery teams, project managers, and solution designers to ensure architectural alignment and successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate business requirements into detailed technical blueprints, data flows, and system integration patterns.
- Design scalable and resilient solutions using Core Java, Java Microservices, AWS, and cloud-native technologies.
- Define and document solution architecture, technical designs, APIs, microservices, and data flows.
- Map and design system integrations, APIs, microservices, and data exchange patterns.
- Collaborate with business architects, technology delivery PMs, solution designers, developers, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, principles, and technology strategies.
- Cascade enterprise architecture standards and principles to solution designers and ensure their adoption.
- Review High-Level Solution Designs (HLSDs) for enterprise architectural alignment.
- Support architecture governance, review, and sign-off through relevant domain and organisational architecture forums.
- Ensure appropriate security best practices are incorporated into solution designs.
- Provide technical guidance and architectural direction throughout the solution lifecycle.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, constraints, and opportunities for improvement.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong experience as a Java Solution Architect, Java Technical Architect, Technology Architect, or similar.
- Strong hands-on understanding of Core Java.
- Extensive experience with Java Microservices architecture.
- Strong AWS and cloud-native architecture experience.
- Proven experience translating business requirements into technical architecture and solution designs.
- Strong understanding of APIs, microservices, system integration, and data flows.
- Experience designing and documenting integration patterns and technical blueprints.
- Understanding of security best practices within solution architecture.
- Experience working with enterprise architecture standards and principles.
- Experience reviewing HLSDs / High-Level Solution Designs.
- Experience contributing to architecture governance and design review/sign-off forums.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively across business and technology teams.

- Experience with enterprise integration and distributed systems.
