Senior Java Developer – Spring Boot / Microservices
Location: Glasgow, UK
Work Mode: Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite per week
Contract Duration: 6 Months (subject to confirmation)

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and backend API development to support enterprise trading applications within the financial services domain.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing and developing scalable, secure, high-performance backend systems, with an understanding of trading platforms, financial messaging protocols, structured products, and derivatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture.
- Participate in technical analysis, solution design, implementation, testing, and deployment activities.
- Create Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation based on business and technical requirements.
- Collaborate with platform architecture and design teams on microservices solutions.
- Develop secure, low-latency RESTful and event-driven APIs.
- Build and maintain trading adaptors that translate internal data models into standard trading protocols.
- Implement reliable transaction processing, logging, monitoring, and auditing mechanisms.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, and assumptions during project delivery.
- Ensure backend services meet performance, security, scalability, and reliability standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions.

Mandatory Skills and Experience
- Minimum 10 years of overall IT/software development experience.
- Strong hands-on Java backend development experience.
- Extensive experience with Spring Boot and Microservices.
- Proven experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
- Experience with event-driven architecture and backend integrations.
- Strong understanding of Low-Level Design (LLD) and microservices architecture.
- Experience building secure, high-performance, low-latency applications.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Highly Preferred Skills
- Experience in Investment Banking, Capital Markets, or Trading Systems.
- Knowledge of financial messaging formats and trading protocols.
- Experience with trading adaptors and order execution workflows.
- Understanding of financial instruments, particularly Structured Products and Derivatives.
- Experience implementing transaction logging and audit controls.
