About The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Java Developer to join a specialist cyber technology and software assurance company supporting UK Defence and Critical National Infrastructure programmes. This role involves developing and enhancing secure Java applications, backend services, and system integrations within a restricted environment, contributing to national security initiatives. The position is offered on a 12-month contract basis, with a competitive daily rate of £600 - £650 and comprehensive benefits.

As a Java Developer, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining secure, scalable backend solutions. Your work will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineers, architects, and stakeholders, to deliver high-quality software that supports critical national security operations. You will work within an Agile development environment, employing best practices to ensure the robustness and security of the applications and systems you develop. Your expertise will directly contribute to the technological infrastructure that underpins UK national security efforts, making this a highly impactful and rewarding role.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Active Enhanced Developed Vetting (eDV) security clearance is essential.
  • Strong experience in Java development, with a proven track record of delivering secure backend solutions.
  • Prior experience working within secure, government, or national security environments.
  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture and deployment.
  • Proficiency in designing and building RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Experience working within Agile teams and methodologies.

Desirable qualifications include familiarity with Spring or Spring Boot frameworks, knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes, experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes, and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.

Candidates from roles such as Java Developer, Java Engineer, Java Software Developer, Java Software Engineer, Software Engineer, Software Developer, Java Backend Developer, Backend Developer, or Backend Java Developer will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance Java-based backend services to meet project requirements and security standards.
  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and maintainable applications aligned with best practices.
  • Build and integrate RESTful APIs to enable seamless communication between systems.
  • Work within microservices architectures, ensuring modularity and scalability of solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams including engineers, architects, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software.
  • Participate actively in Agile development cycles, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Contribute to the development of technology supporting UK national security operations, ensuring compliance with security protocols and standards.
