About The Role
We are currently seeking experienced Java Developers to join a major Central Government digital delivery program on a 12-month contract basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic, multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for building and maintaining large-scale digital services. The successful candidates will play a crucial role in developing resilient, scalable, and secure applications using cutting-edge cloud and event-driven technologies. This position is hybrid, requiring approximately 60% attendance at one of our office locations in Manchester, Leeds, or Birmingham, with the remainder of the work conducted remotely. Candidates must hold BPSS clearance and be eligible for Security Clearance (SC).

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in Java development, with proven experience in enterprise-level applications. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in Spring Boot and have practical knowledge of deploying and managing applications within AWS cloud environments. Familiarity with Kafka and event-driven architecture is essential, along with experience working with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB. A background in Agile software development methodologies and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams are important. Additionally, experience working on government or large-scale digital projects is highly desirable, as it ensures familiarity with the unique requirements of secure and compliant digital services.
Responsibilities
The successful Java Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining digital services that meet high standards of security, scalability, and performance. Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions
- Implementing cloud-native applications using Java and Spring Boot
- Integrating with AWS services such as Lambda, S3, and API Gateway
- Working with Kafka to develop event-driven architectures that facilitate real-time data processing and system responsiveness
- Ensuring code quality through rigorous testing and adherence to best practices
- Participating in Agile ceremonies
- Contributing to continuous integration and deployment pipelines
- Assisting in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues promptly
- Maintaining documentation
- Providing technical guidance to team members
