About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join our dynamic team on a 12-month contract basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, development, and support of critical software products that underpin a range of digital, user-focused services. The successful candidate will work in a hybrid working environment, with multiple UK office locations, collaborating closely with architecture, engineering, and product teams to build scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions. You will play a key role in guiding best practices across the engineering team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software aligned with modern engineering standards.
Qualifications
- A proven track record in Java software development, particularly within complex, medium- to high-impact environments.
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and contemporary backend engineering practices.
- Strong familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and cloud-native development.
- Experience working with event-driven architectures and distributed systems, especially using Kafka.
- Proficiency with MongoDB and NoSQL database management.
- Demonstrable ability to design, code, test, troubleshoot, and document complex software solutions using industry standards and tools.
- Leadership skills to guide and mentor junior team members, promoting best practices in software engineering.
- Good understanding of service resilience, operational stability, and production support.
- Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
- Design and lead the development of reusable Java libraries, services, and software components that support scalable and resilient systems.
- Develop and shape medium to long-term technical strategies for product lines and the broader engineering community.
- Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to create robust, scalable, and secure system architectures.
- Champion software engineering best practices, including writing clean code, comprehensive testing, documentation, and maintainability.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve infrastructure and production issues promptly to minimize downtime and impact.
- Promote knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and process improvements within the engineering team and across departments.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical decision-making to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend innovative solutions.
- Support operational stability, service resilience, and system performance through ongoing monitoring and improvements.
- Work closely with product managers, UX teams, and other stakeholders to ensure solutions meet user needs and organizational goals.
