About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Developer to join our client’s team remotely in Scotland. This pivotal role involves taking a hands-on approach to developing and maintaining their sophisticated post-trade platform, which includes proprietary systems, APIs, client-facing reporting tools, and a web portal. The successful candidate will also be instrumental in customizing and integrating third-party trading systems to align with evolving business requirements. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on high-impact projects within the financial services sector, utilizing the latest cloud-native technologies, AI integrations, and microservices architecture.
The Senior Java Developer will collaborate closely with Client Services and Product Management teams to translate complex business needs into scalable, robust software solutions. This role is ideal for a professional eager to deepen their expertise in capital markets, cloud computing, and AI while assuming leadership responsibilities such as mentoring junior developers and championing best practices across the development lifecycle. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in Java development within the financial services industry, demonstrating proficiency with Java 11+ and frameworks like Spring Boot. A strong understanding of multi-threading, performance profiling, and tuning is essential. Experience working with microservices and event-driven architectures, along with hands-on knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, is required. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, and automated build/deployment practices, including CI/CD pipelines, is also necessary.
The candidate should have a proven track record with test-driven development (TDD), behavior-driven development (BDD), and frameworks such as JUnit, Spock, and Mockito. Deep understanding of design principles like SOLID, design patterns, and clean code practices is expected. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are vital for explaining technical concepts to diverse audiences and collaborating effectively with offshore teams across different time zones. A background in capital markets and experience in mentoring or leading development teams will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will partner with cross-functional teams to transform intricate business requirements into scalable, reliable software solutions. You will design, develop, and support in-house systems, APIs, reporting tools, and client portals, ensuring they meet high standards of quality and performance. Your responsibilities include integrating AI into the development lifecycle, customizing third-party trading systems, and maintaining a focus on clean, well-tested code grounded in SOLID principles and design patterns.
You will work extensively with microservices and event-driven architectures deployed on cloud platforms, utilizing infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform. Ensuring comprehensive testing coverage through TDD and BDD methodologies, you will participate in code reviews to uphold and elevate coding standards across the team. Additionally, you will collaborate with Client Services and Product Management to translate business needs into technical solutions, explain complex concepts to various stakeholders, and troubleshoot root causes of issues to prioritize fixes effectively.
