About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Developer to join our dynamic team on a 12-month contract basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, development, and support of essential software products that power various digital services. The successful candidate will work in a hybrid working environment, collaborating closely with architecture, engineering, and product teams across multiple UK office locations. Your expertise will be instrumental in building scalable, secure, and maintainable systems, ensuring that best practices are adhered to throughout the development lifecycle. This position requires a proactive leader with a deep understanding of modern engineering standards, cloud-based solutions, and distributed system architecture.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Java software development, particularly within complex and high-impact environments. Proven experience with Spring Boot, AWS cloud services, Kafka, and MongoDB is essential. You should have a solid understanding of service resilience, operational stability, and scalable cloud delivery. Additionally, familiarity with modern backend engineering practices, including clean code principles, testing, and documentation, is required. The ability to guide and mentor team members, review system designs, and make technology decisions is highly valued. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, along with relevant certifications in cloud or software development.

Responsibilities
- Design and lead strategies for building reusable Java libraries, services, and software components that support scalable and maintainable systems.
- Shape medium to long-term technical strategies for product lines and contribute to the broader software engineering community within the organization.
- Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to design resilient, scalable, and secure systems that meet business and user needs.
- Champion best practices in software engineering, including writing clean, maintainable code, comprehensive testing, thorough documentation, and adherence to modern standards.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve infrastructure and production issues promptly to ensure high system availability and performance.
- Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering teams to foster innovation and efficiency.
- Guide and mentor junior engineers, providing technical leadership and support during development cycles.
- Assist in designing systems with medium levels of complexity, reviewing designs, and selecting appropriate technologies to meet project requirements.
- Support operational stability by understanding service resilience, robustness, and conducting production support activities.
- Work closely with product managers, user researchers, and delivery teams to ensure solutions are aligned with user needs and organizational goals.
