About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Java Developer to join a dynamic, remote development team working on a critical Home Office project. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining secure and scalable Java applications and services. The successful candidate will play a vital part in the full software development lifecycle, from initial design and coding to testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on high-profile government projects, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and methodologies. The role requires strong technical expertise in Java and Spring Boot, with a focus on building robust REST APIs and microservices architectures. As part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to developing innovative solutions that meet security standards and operational requirements.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in Java development, with proven experience in Java SE and Java EE environments.
  • Solid understanding of the Spring Framework, particularly Spring Boot.
  • Demonstrable experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Good grasp of relational databases and SQL.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience with build tools like Maven or Gradle.
  • Experience working within Agile or Scrum methodologies is highly desirable.
  • Additional knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines will be considered advantageous.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy Java applications and microservices in line with project requirements and security standards.
  • Build and enhance solutions using Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Data frameworks.
  • Develop and integrate RESTful APIs to enable seamless communication between services.
  • Work with relational databases, writing efficient SQL queries and optimizing database interactions.
  • Troubleshoot and debug technical issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Participate in code reviews, maintaining high coding standards and best practices.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability through continuous monitoring and improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, product managers, and fellow developers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by refining development processes and tooling.
