Java Developer – Public Sector (Contract) | SC Cleared

Rate: £400/day Inside IR35
Location: Remote with occasional travel to Newcastle / other UK sites
Duration: 1.5 months initially, starting 10 August — strong likelihood of a 3-month extension
Clearance: SC eligible

About the Role

We're looking for a Java Developer to join a project delivering for a major UK government department. You'll be building and testing Kubernetes-hosted Java microservices — including Email Ingestion, Data Fetching, and Data Matching — integrated via message queues and AWS EventBridge, backed by a custom relational schema. You'll also support the team's prompt engineer on AI integration work, alongside code reviews and unit/integration testing.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing, building, and testing Java microservices deployed on Kubernetes (EKS)
  • Working with message-driven architectures (RabbitMQ, SQS, EventBridge)
  • Supporting integration of AI/prompt engineering components
  • Conducting code reviews and writing unit/integration tests
  • Collaborating within an agile delivery team on a public sector project
