Role: Java Developer

Location: Newcastle (Hybrid)

Type: FTC

Duration: 12 months

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Java Developer with strong experience in Spring Boot and microservices architecture to join our growing engineering team. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying scalable, secure, and high-performance enterprise applications in a cloud-native environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop modular, scalable microservices using Java (JDK 11+) and Spring Boot
  • Build and maintain secure, high-performance integrations using enterprise middleware tools like WebLogic Server and CAS SDK
  • Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to deploy applications on AWS cloud platforms using containers (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Support the design and implementation of microservices architecture and ensure seamless integration between system components
  • Work closely with QA/test automation teams to ensure functional and non-functional quality (performance, scalability, security)
  • Follow and promote best practices such as:
    • Test Driven Development (TDD)
    • Continuous Integration & Continuous Testing
    • Clean coding standards and code reviews
    • Version control and Git branching strategies
  • Actively participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Stand-ups, Reviews, Retrospectives)

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience in Core Java (JDK 11+)
  • Proven expertise in Spring Boot and microservices development
  • Experience working with WebLogic Server (Enterprise Edition) and CAS SDK
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS)
  • Knowledge of containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, system integrations, and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies

Nice to Have

  • Experience with API gateways, messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Exposure to monitoring/logging tools (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana)
