Senior Full Stack Software Engineer

Location: London/Edinburgh/Manchester (2 days per week onsite)

Contract Duration: Initial 6-month contract with strong potential for extension

Rate: Competitive (Via Umbrella)

The Role

Lorien is recruiting on behalf of a leading UK banking client for an experienced Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team delivering innovative digital banking solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a modern engineering environment, contributing to the design, development, and deployment of scalable, cloud-native applications. The successful candidate will play a key role in building secure, high-quality solutions using Java, Spring Boot, React, and AWS while driving best practices across Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable full stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, and React.
  • Build and enhance microservices-based architectures within a cloud-native environment.
  • Develop responsive and intuitive user interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks and libraries.
  • Design, implement, and optimise CI/CD pipelines to support continuous delivery and deployment practices.
  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Ensure applications meet performance, security, resilience, and regulatory requirements expected within a banking environment.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
  • Support deployment, monitoring, and operational excellence across production environments.
  • Work within Agile delivery teams to deliver business-critical projects and enhancements.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Proven experience developing and supporting microservices architectures.
  • Strong front-end development skills using React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrable experience implementing Continuous Deployment practices within enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, code quality, and version control.
  • Experience delivering solutions within AWS cloud environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within Agile teams.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience developing applications within the banking or financial services sector.
  • Knowledge or experience of mobile banking platforms and applications.
  • Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Exposure to DevOps tooling and infrastructure-as-code practices.
