Java Developer (London, Hybrid)

Location: London, UK
Working Mode: 3 days on site in City of London
IR35 Categorisation: Inside
Rate: £600 per day

We're looking for a Java Developer to join our client (Investment Banking) in a hybrid working model (London, 3 days per week). You will be supporting the design and delivery of next-generation business applications. This role involves building scalable, cloud-based solutions, integrating with third-party platforms and ensuring operational reliability while meeting strict compliance and performance standards, in a highly regulated financial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Design, implement, and maintain modern, cloud-enabled applications to support middle office processing
  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations for enhancements of existing applications and evaluation of new initiatives
  • Develop clean, secure, and efficient code in Java and Python and work with scripting tools such as PowerShell or Bash
  • Conduct code reviews, unit testing, and participate in application architecture discussions
  • Ensure compliance with internal SDLC standards related to code management, code inspection, and security best practices
  • Utilize tools such as GitLab and Terraform for CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure as code
  • Support critical enterprise risk mandates, ensuring production systems meet operational stability and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate within agile teams to deliver fully integrated features from planning through deployment
  • Ensure production readiness by implementing operational controls and monitoring frameworks

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer, developing complex cloud-based solutions in the financial services sector
  • Strong skills in Java backend development
  • Familiarity with ETD clearing platforms, particularly FIS CD Trade Clearing, and workflow integrations
  • Solid understanding of enterprise architecture standards, compliance, and production stability requirements
  • Strong experience with Spring / Spring Boot
  • Strong experience in a TDD (Test-driven development) environment

Nice to Have Skills

  • Good scripting experience with PowerShell / Bash
  • Knowledge of market gateways and clearing connectivity (exchange-facing flows)
  • Understanding of performance tuning and application resilience for high-volume middle office systems
  • Familiarity with container orchestration and microservices-based architectures
