I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

As a member of the team, you will contribute to the continued evolution of the platform’s design and architecture, support it in production, and deliver enhancements and new features aligned with the fund’s ambitious roadmap. You will work closely with the Research, Quant Development, and Execution teams within the Vector business line, as well as collaborating with other teams across iSAM. We look for capable, self-directed professionals who are interested in a hands-on role within a trading firm and the opportunity to contribute directly to its core business. Given the team’s small size and rapid development cycle, enthusiasm, an open mind, and a willingness to learn are essential. The role offers an excellent opportunity to deepen your understanding of systematic trading while building on your existing technical experience. Although this is primarily a development role, you will also help support production systems as part of a rota.
We train all team members to become authorised traders for the Vector fund, giving them a deeper understanding of the practical implications and constraints involved in operating a fully systematic, automated trading system. This is a unique role combining technical breadth, close engagement with the business, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on a major investment platform.
