Java Developer

Job location: Remote, UK (1 day per fortnight in London or Manchester)

Description:

These job roles are linked directly to free education, and upon completion of our course, you will be equipped to start your new role.

THE ROLE:

Our clients are looking for Java Developers to join their team.

ABOUT YOU & THE ROLE

In this role, you will support the development activities and team overseeing the re-factoring of application components. Operating within a large, multidisciplinary programme team, you will work directly alongside technical specialists and client teams to deliver key application changes required for a successful platform migration.

  • Strong technical background with foundational experience in software engineering.
  • Core proficiency in Java development, ideally with hands-on experience using the Spring framework.
  • Practical familiarity working in UNIX environments and writing standard shell commands.
  • Experience querying and working with SQL databases.
  • Familiarity with Git workflows and version control management using GitLab.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and an eagerness to contribute to complex system migrations.

SOME THINGS YOU'LL BE WORKING ON

  • Designing, developing, and assuring key application components to support the re-factoring of legacy software systems.
  • Collaborating directly with consultant specialists, client engineers, and wider programme teams to execute migration plans.
  • Writing clean, maintainable code using Java and Spring within a UNIX environment.
  • Utilising GitLab for source control, continuous integration practices, and code reviews.
  • Identifying code optimisations, fixing technical defects, and supporting quality assurance testing.
  • Contributing to technical implementation docs and system architecture updates for the LTD Programme.
