Java Developer
Experience: 2-5 years of hands-on experience
Location: Newcastle (Must be local, or willing to relocate to Newcastle)
Working pattern: Hybrid - 3 days a week in the Newcastle office
Salary: between £35k-45k dependent on experience level.
Are you a Java Developer looking for an opportunity to join a leading technology delivery environment and build your career on large-scale enterprise projects?
We're looking for developers with experience in Java and Spring Boot who are keen to work within a collaborative Agile team, delivering secure, scalable solutions for major clients. This role offers an initial 12-month fixed-term contract with the intention of converting to a permanent position.
What you'll be doing
- Developing enterprise applications using Java (JDK 11+) and Spring Boot
- Building and supporting microservices-based solutions
- Working closely with cloud, DevOps, and testing teams
- Participating in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
- Following engineering best practices including TDD, CI/CD, and code quality standards
- Supporting end-to-end delivery from development through testing and deployment

What we're looking for
- Experience developing applications using Java and Spring Boot
- Understanding of microservices architecture
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments
- Knowledge of source control, testing, and CI/CD practices
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS is desirable
Essential Requirements
To do well in this role, you’ll need:
- Some experience with Java development (academic, commercial, or personal projects)
- Basic understanding of SQL and relational databases
- Exposure to Python for scripting or automation tasks
- Familiarity or willingness to learn AWS cloud services
- A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn and grow
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Ability to obtain SC clearance
