The Opportunity
We’re looking for experienced Java Developers to join a major digital programme delivering large-scale, citizen-facing services. This is a great opportunity for a hands-on Java engineer to work with a modern technology stack including Java, Spring Boot, AWS, Kafka, and MongoDB, while contributing to the development of highly scalable, secure, and resilient digital services.
You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary Agile team, collaborating with engineers, architects, and delivery professionals to turn complex requirements into reliable, production-ready software.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Java applications and services.
- Build scalable and resilient microservices using Spring Boot.
- Develop RESTful APIs and integrations with other systems.
- Work with Kafka and event-driven architectures.
- Develop and maintain cloud-based solutions using AWS.
- Work with MongoDB and NoSQL technologies.
- Write robust automated unit and integration tests.
- Troubleshoot defects and complex technical issues.
- Contribute to the performance, resilience, and operational stability of live services.
- Participate throughout the full software development lifecycle.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and technical discussions.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers, Technical Architects, and other delivery professionals.
- Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and continuous improvement.
- Support production services and participate in 3rd-line support when required.

What We’re Looking For
You’ll be a proactive and collaborative Software Engineer with strong commercial experience in Java and Spring Boot.
You should be comfortable working in an Agile environment and have experience developing modern, production-grade software.

We’re particularly interested in developers with experience of:
- Building scalable and resilient distributed systems.
- Event-driven architecture and messaging.
- AWS cloud technologies.
- Microservices and API development.
- Automated testing and CI/CD.
- Production support and troubleshooting.
- Monitoring, logging, and application performance.
- Docker and/or Kubernetes.
- Large-scale digital services.
Experience within government or public-sector digital programmes would be advantageous, but isn’t essential.
