About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join our dynamic team on a 12-month contract basis. This hybrid role offers flexibility with multiple UK office locations, allowing for a balanced blend of remote and in-office work. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and supporting software products that form the backbone of various digital, user-focused services. You will collaborate closely with architecture, engineering, and product teams to ensure the delivery of scalable, secure, and reliable solutions. Your expertise will guide the team in adopting best practices in modern software engineering, contributing to the continuous improvement of our technology stack and development processes.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Java software development, particularly within complex, medium- to high-impact environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and modern backend engineering practices.
  • Strong familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and cloud-native application development.
  • Experience working with event-driven or distributed systems, with a focus on Kafka.
  • Proficiency in working with MongoDB and understanding of NoSQL database principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, code, test, troubleshoot, and document complex software solutions using industry standards and tools.
  • Leadership skills to guide and mentor junior team members, promoting best practices in software engineering.
  • Knowledge of service resilience, operational stability, robustness, and production support.
  • Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams including product management, architecture, and user research.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead strategies for creating reusable Java libraries, microservices, and software components that enhance system modularity and reusability.
  • Shape medium to long-term technical strategies aligned with organizational goals and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to design robust, resilient, and scalable systems that meet current and future demands.
  • Champion software engineering best practices, including writing clean code, comprehensive testing, documentation, maintainability, and adherence to modern standards.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve infrastructure and production issues promptly to ensure high system availability and performance.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and process improvements within the engineering community.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and strategic planning to drive innovation and quality assurance.
  • Support the integration of cloud services and ensure solutions are optimized for scalability and security.
  • Work closely with product teams to understand user requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
