About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Developer to join our dynamic team on a 12-month contract basis. This hybrid role offers flexibility with working arrangements across multiple UK office locations. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and supporting software products that underpin various digital services. Your expertise will help shape the technical direction of our projects, ensuring the delivery of scalable, resilient, and secure solutions aligned with modern engineering standards.

You will work closely with architecture, engineering, and product teams to develop innovative solutions that meet user needs and organizational goals. The role requires a proactive leader who can guide junior developers, promote best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the operational stability and scalability of our systems, leveraging your deep knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, AWS, Kafka, and MongoDB.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Java software development, ideally within complex or high-impact environments. Proven experience with Spring Boot and modern backend engineering practices is essential. Familiarity with cloud-based platforms, particularly AWS, along with event-driven or distributed systems such as Kafka, is required. Additionally, experience working with MongoDB and designing scalable, resilient systems is highly desirable.

You should have a solid understanding of software engineering standards, including testing, documentation, and maintainability. Responsibilities

  • Design and lead strategies for building reusable Java libraries, services, and software components that support scalable and secure applications.
  • Shape medium to long-term technical strategies for product lines and contribute to the broader software engineering community within the organization.
  • Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to design robust, resilient, and scalable systems that meet business and technical requirements.
  • Champion software engineering best practices, including clean code, comprehensive testing, documentation, and adherence to modern standards.
  • Identify, investigate, and support the resolution of infrastructure and production issues to ensure high system availability and performance.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and process improvements across the engineering team to foster a culture of excellence.
  • Mentor junior developers, providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth within the team.
  • Participate in code reviews, system design discussions, and technical decision-making processes.
  • Ensure solutions are aligned with organizational goals, user needs, and industry best practices, including considerations for accessibility and service quality.
