About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to join our engineering team and contribute to the development of secure, scalable, and high-quality software solutions. You will work across application development, automated testing, cloud services, CI/CD, and containerised environments as part of an Agile delivery team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop and integrate event-driven solutions using Kafka.
- Work with MongoDB for data storage and management.
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following Test-Driven Development (TDD) and unit testing practices.
- Develop automated BDD tests using Gherkin and Cucumber.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines.
- Work with AWS services to develop and support cloud-based solutions.
- Build and manage containerised applications using Docker.
- Support application deployment and orchestration using Kubernetes or Amazon ECS.
- Contribute to load and performance testing using Gatling or k6.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development practices.
- Work collaboratively with developers, testers, DevOps engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Follow Scrum/Kanban and other Agile delivery practices.

Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong commercial experience in Java development.
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot.
- Experience working with Kafka.
- Experience with MongoDB.
- Good understanding of Docker images and containers.
- Experience with unit testing and TDD.
- Experience developing Gherkin-style BDD tests, preferably using Cucumber.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
- Experience working in an Agile environment, preferably Scrum or Kanban.
- Active UK Security Check (SC) clearance is essential.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience working with AWS, particularly:
- Amazon SQS
- Amazon S3
- Amazon SNS
- AWS KMS
- Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD.
- Strong experience with Cucumber and BDD.
- Experience using Gatling or k6 for load and performance testing.
- Experience with Kubernetes or Amazon ECS.
- Experience working on UK Government or public-sector projects.

We are looking for a developer who can take ownership of their work, collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality software. You should have strong problem-solving skills, good engineering practices, and the ability to work confidently across development, testing, and deployment activities.
Security Clearance: Active UK SC clearance is required for this position.
