About The Role
The Senior Lead Scala Engineer is a pivotal role within LSEG’s engineering team, primarily focused on developing and maintaining critical market-infrastructure services within the Equities platform. This role emphasizes AWS cloud-native development, requiring expertise in designing scalable, resilient, and high-performance backend systems. Reporting directly to the Senior Technical Delivery Engineer, Post Trade, the successful candidate will take ownership of complex technical solutions, contribute to the strategic direction of engineering practices, and support the ongoing growth of the business. As a senior team member, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that technical standards are met and that solutions align with industry best practices. Your work will directly impact the efficiency, security, and reliability of the trading infrastructure that powers global financial markets.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience in Scala development, with a strong understanding of functional programming principles
- Extensive experience with event-driven microservices architecture
- Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services such as Aurora, MSK, S3, IAM, and cloud networking fundamentals
- Hands-on experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes
- Proficiency in database management, including SQL (Postgres) and object storage solutions (AWS S3)
- Experience with enterprise-grade application delivery frameworks like Akka, Play Framework, Cats/Scalaz
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines, CI/CD practices, and shift-left testing methodologies
- Knowledge of message brokers such as Kafka and MQ
- Experience working within Agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, resilient backend services primarily built in Scala, ensuring high performance and robustness
- Engage deeply in technical design discussions, ensuring solutions follow best practices and industry standards
- Participate actively in all phases of the product engineering lifecycle, including solutioning, coding, testing, and deployment
- Implement event-driven microservices using modern patterns, ensuring seamless communication and data flow
- Apply cloud architecture principles to optimize infrastructure on AWS, leveraging services such as Aurora, MSK, and S3
- Contribute to building and maintaining DevOps pipelines to support continuous integration and delivery
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions aligned with business needs
- Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement
- Promote an open, collaborative environment that encourages innovation, constructive feedback, and shared success
- Ensure compliance with security standards, data privacy policies, and regulatory requirements
