Java Developer – Step Into Low Latency Location: Fully Remote | Permanent | up to £130k + bonus and equity
About the Role I'm working with a technology company looking to hire a Java Developer to join a highly technical engineering team focused on building high-performance, distributed systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for a strong Java engineer looking to move into the world of low-latency software engineering. You don't need an extensive background in low-latency development, but you should have excellent Java fundamentals, enjoy solving complex technical problems, and be keen to learn from experienced engineers.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and developing high-performance Java applications.
- Building scalable, resilient software used in demanding production environments.
- Working closely with experienced engineers on performance-critical systems.
- Contributing to architecture, design discussions and code reviews.
- Continuously improving performance, reliability and maintainability across the platform.

What They're Looking For
- Strong commercial experience with Java.
- Excellent understanding of core Java fundamentals and object-oriented design.
- Experience building production-grade applications.
- Good understanding of multithreading, concurrency and software design principles.
- A passion for writing clean, efficient, high-quality code.
- An interest in distributed systems, performance engineering or low-latency technologies.

Nice to Have
- Exposure to performance optimisation or JVM tuning.
- Experience with concurrent programming.
- Background in financial services, fintech or another performance-sensitive environment.
- Knowledge of technologies such as Aeron, Netty, Disruptor or similar is beneficial but not essential.
