About The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Java Developer to join a specialist cyber technology and software assurance company supporting UK Defence and Critical National Infrastructure programmes. This role is pivotal in developing secure, scalable Java applications and backend services that underpin national security operations. As a Java Developer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing software components within a highly secure environment, contributing to projects that safeguard critical infrastructure. The position is a 12-month contract offering a competitive daily rate of £600 - £650, along with comprehensive benefits.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Java development, with demonstrable experience working within secure government or national security environments. Active Enhanced Developed Vetting (eDV) security clearance is essential for this role. Candidates should have a solid understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful API design, and backend service development. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience collaborating within cross-functional teams are highly desirable. Additional technical skills such as knowledge of Spring or Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD processes, and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure will be considered advantageous. Candidates from roles such as Java Developer, Java Engineer, Software Engineer, Backend Developer, or Java Software Developer are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and enhancing Java-based backend services to meet project requirements.
  • Designing and implementing secure, scalable applications aligned with security standards.
  • Building and integrating RESTful APIs to facilitate system communication and data exchange.
  • Working within microservices architectures to ensure modularity and maintainability.
  • Collaborating with engineers, architects, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Participating actively in Agile development cycles, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Contributing to the development of technology supporting UK national security operations, ensuring compliance with security protocols.
