About The Role
We are currently looking for an experienced Java Developer Team Lead to join our client’s dynamic team on an initial 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead technical initiatives within a public sector organization, primarily working remotely with occasional visits to the Edinburgh office. The successful candidate will provide hands-on leadership to an agile development team, driving the development, support, and enhancement of critical financial applications and automation pipelines. Acting as a key liaison between the development team and the Architecture Steering Group, the Team Lead will help define best practices, architectural standards, and ensure the delivery of high-quality technical solutions that support the organization’s strategic objectives.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Java development with a minimum of Java 11 or higher. Proven experience working with Spring Boot microservices and Spring Security is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of cloud-based solutions, automation pipelines, and modern software development practices. Relevant certifications and hands-on experience with database migrations, particularly moving from on-premises to cloud-managed solutions, will be advantageous. Strong leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within an agile environment are also required.

Responsibilities
The Java Developer Team Lead will be responsible for a wide range of technical and leadership duties, including:
- Providing hands-on technical leadership to an agile development team, guiding best practices and ensuring adherence to architectural standards.
- Leading the development and support of solutions that enhance the application pipeline, improving automation rates for Dispositions, Standard Securities, Discharges, and Combos.
- Enhancing the Settle tooling to support processing of partial dropouts from automated flows and supporting the continued development of Settle UI and services to manage various deed types.
- Leading the design and development of a Self Guided Web App to facilitate settling of deed types requiring modifications to different sections, and supporting functionality to settle Financial Requests (FRs).
- Improving the resilience and reliability of automation pipelines to ensure continuous operation and efficiency.
- Supporting the transition from on-premises databases to cloud-managed solutions, including upgrading Java to the latest LTS versions, updating RabbitMQ, and maintaining Spring Boot currency.
- Assisting in the management, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of existing services to ensure they remain current and efficient.
- Acting as a conduit between the development team and the Architecture Steering Group, helping refine architectural principles and best practices.
