About The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Java Developer to join a specialist cyber technology and software assurance company supporting UK Defence and Critical National Infrastructure programmes. As a Java Developer, you will be instrumental in developing and enhancing secure Java applications, backend services, and system integrations within a highly restricted and secure environment. This contractual role spans 12 months, offering a competitive daily rate of £600 - £650, complemented by a range of benefits tailored to support your professional growth and well-being.

You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend systems, ensuring they meet stringent security and performance standards. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, architects, and stakeholders, you will contribute to the development of innovative solutions that support UK national security operations. Your expertise will help build scalable, secure, and efficient applications that are vital to national defense and infrastructure resilience.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise and security clearance. Essential qualifications include:

  • Active Enhanced Developed Vetting (eDV) security clearance is mandatory.
  • Proven experience in Java development, particularly within secure and government environments.
  • Strong knowledge of microservices architecture and RESTful API development.
  • Experience working within Agile development methodologies.
  • Demonstrable understanding of backend service design and implementation.

Desirable skills include familiarity with Spring or Spring Boot frameworks, containerization tools like Docker or Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. Candidates with backgrounds as Java Developers, Java Engineers, Software Developers, or Backend Developers are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance Java-based backend services to ensure security, scalability, and reliability.
  • Design and implement secure and efficient applications aligned with project requirements.
  • Build and integrate RESTful APIs to facilitate seamless system communication.
  • Work within microservices architecture, ensuring modularity and maintainability.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams, system architects, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Participate in Agile development cycles, including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Contribute to the development of technology that supports UK national security operations, ensuring compliance with security protocols and standards.
