About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Java Developer to join a dynamic and remote development team working on a critical Home Office project. This role involves developing, enhancing, and maintaining secure, scalable Java applications and microservices that are integral to national security and public safety initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the full software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization of applications.

The Java Developer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including architects, product managers, and other developers, to deliver high-quality solutions. The role requires a strong understanding of Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices architecture, with an emphasis on security, performance, and reliability. The position offers an excellent opportunity to work on impactful projects within a collaborative environment, utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as cloud services, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in Java development, with proven experience in building scalable and secure applications. Essential qualifications include expertise in Java SE and Java EE, along with extensive hands-on experience with the Spring Framework, particularly Spring Boot. A strong understanding of RESTful API development, microservices architecture, and relational databases is required. Proficiency with version control systems such as Git, build tools like Maven or Gradle, and familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) are highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, a good grasp of object-oriented programming principles, and the ability to work effectively within Agile/Scrum environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy Java-based applications and microservices, ensuring they meet security and performance standards.
  • Build and enhance solutions using Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Data frameworks.
  • Develop and integrate RESTful APIs to facilitate seamless communication between services.
  • Work with relational databases, writing complex SQL queries and optimizing database interactions.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve technical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Participate in code reviews to uphold high coding standards and promote best practices across the team.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability through continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with architects, product teams, and other developers to deliver cohesive solutions aligned with project requirements.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of development processes, tools, and methodologies, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

This role offers a competitive daily rate within the range of 475 to 525 inside IR35, reflecting the expertise and experience required. The position is remote, providing flexibility and the opportunity to work from any location. The contract is initially for six months with the possibility of rolling extensions, offering stability and ongoing engagement with impactful projects.
