About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Developer to join our dynamic team on a 12-month contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment with multiple UK office locations, providing flexibility and the chance to collaborate with talented professionals across different regions. As a Senior Java Developer, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, and supporting software products that are vital to numerous digital services. You will work closely with architecture, engineering, and product teams to develop scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions, ensuring high standards of quality and performance. Your expertise will guide the wider engineering community in adopting best practices, fostering innovation, and ensuring the delivery of resilient cloud-based systems.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in Java software development, particularly in complex, medium- to high-impact environments.
  • Proficiency with Spring Boot and modern backend engineering practices.
  • Hands-on experience working within cloud-based environments, preferably AWS.
  • Strong understanding of event-driven and distributed systems, with practical experience using Kafka.
  • Experience working with MongoDB and designing scalable database solutions.
  • Proven ability to develop, test, document, and maintain complex programs, services, or scripts according to industry standards.
  • Excellent mentoring skills, with the ability to guide and influence other engineers on engineering standards, methods, and tooling.
  • Experience designing systems with medium levels of technical and business complexity, including reviewing designs and selecting appropriate technologies.
  • Knowledge of service resilience, operational stability, robustness, and production support best practices.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with product teams, architecture, user research, and delivery teams to meet user needs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead strategies for building reusable Java libraries, services, and software components that promote efficiency and consistency across projects.
  • Shape medium to long-term technical strategies for product lines and influence the wider software engineering community within the organization.
  • Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to design robust, resilient, and scalable systems that meet current and future demands.
  • Champion software engineering best practices, including writing clean code, comprehensive testing, documentation, and maintainability standards.
  • Identify, investigate, and support the resolution of infrastructure and production issues to ensure system stability and performance.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and innovation across the engineering team to enhance overall technical capabilities.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and mentorship activities to foster a culture of excellence and learning.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends to incorporate relevant advancements into the development process.
