Java Developer – 12-Month Contract

Location: Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, UK

Working Pattern: Hybrid

Duration: 12 Months

We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to join a multi-functional Agile delivery team, developing and maintaining software products that deliver essential citizen services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test and maintain production-ready Java applications and services.
  • Translate business requirements into robust, scalable and reusable solutions.
  • Design reusable libraries, services and integrations.
  • Build comprehensive automated unit and integration tests.
  • Ensure application robustness, resilience, security and operational stability.
  • Work closely with Technical Architects, Principal Engineers and wider delivery teams.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues, including providing 3rd-line support where required.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, coding standards and software engineering best practices.
  • Support continuous improvement and mentor other Software Engineers.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong commercial experience in Java software development.
  • Experience working within Agile/SDLC environments.
  • Strong understanding of software design, development, testing and version control.
  • Experience developing APIs, integrations and reusable services.
  • Good understanding of automated testing, system resilience and production support.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
