About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Java Engineer to join our dynamic Tech department at GTI. In this pivotal role, you will provide technical leadership for our core SaaS platform, shaping its architecture, standards, and future development. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will not have direct line management responsibilities but will influence and guide engineering teams through technical expertise and best practices. Your primary focus will be on designing and implementing scalable, resilient, and secure solutions that align with business objectives. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including Product, Data, Operations, DevOps, and QA to ensure seamless delivery and operational excellence. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and drive innovation within a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Extensive experience in Java software development, with a focus on technical leadership
- Deep understanding of Java, JVM performance optimization, and modern language features
- Proficiency with Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, and enterprise application architecture
- Experience designing and implementing distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures
- Knowledge of cloud-native technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS
- Strong understanding of application security principles, OWASP guidelines, and secure SDLC practices
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins, or similar tools
- Familiarity with front-end frameworks such as Angular or equivalent
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills
- Ability to influence technical decisions through leadership rather than direct management

Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and set the strategic direction for the core SaaS platform
- Own and evolve the application architecture, ensuring scalability, resilience, and security
- Design, develop, and review high-quality Java and full-stack solutions, APIs, and integrations
- Lead initiatives to optimize system performance, scalability, and resilience
- Drive security best practices, vulnerability management, and secure software development lifecycle adherence
- Collaborate with Data, Operations, DevOps, and QA teams to ensure architectural alignment and operational excellence
- Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions and support product roadmap delivery
- Mentor and guide engineering teams to improve technical capabilities, quality, and delivery outcomes
- Define and uphold engineering standards, architectural principles, and best practices across teams
- Conduct design and code reviews to ensure maintainability, quality, and consistency
- Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex production issues
- Enhance system observability, monitoring, and operational performance metrics
- Promote a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and proactive issue prevention
