About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Engineer to join our dynamic team at Ncounter Limited. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects supporting the UK’s national security initiatives. As a Senior Java Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and cloud-native software solutions that enable analysts to convert complex, multi-source data into actionable intelligence. You will work within a highly regulated environment, contributing to large-scale data ingestion systems, distributed architectures, and secure microservices that underpin critical national security operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java development, cloud-native technologies, and secure software engineering practices, with the ability to solve complex technical challenges in a collaborative setting.

Qualifications
The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:
- Proven commercial experience in Java development, with a strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
- Hands-on experience building and deploying scalable microservices and distributed systems.
- Expertise in Spring Boot framework and cloud-native architecture, preferably with experience in OpenShift or Kubernetes environments.
- Familiarity with secure coding practices and experience working within secure or classified environments.
- Experience with data processing tools such as Apache NiFi and message brokers for event-driven architectures.
- Knowledge of modern JavaScript frameworks and REST API development is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools.
- Current eDV or DV clearance, or recently active DV clearance, is essential.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining Java-based microservices and data pipelines that support large-scale data ingestion, enrichment, and processing.
- Implementing secure, cloud-native applications deployed on OpenShift and Kubernetes platforms.
- Building event-driven distributed systems utilizing message brokers to facilitate reliable communication between services and data stores.
- Developing modern JavaScript applications and REST APIs that enable analysts to search, visualize, and manage operational data effectively.
- Contributing to the development of cross-domain solutions to securely transfer information across networks of varying classifications.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure software solutions meet security, performance, and operational requirements.
- Participating in code reviews, testing, and documentation to uphold high-quality standards.
- Engaging in continuous learning to stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in secure software engineering.
