Java Fullstack Engineer – Retail Banking (Contract)
Location: London (team based) | Remote from Manchester / Edinburgh considered
Contract: 6 Months
Rate: Via Umbrella
Overview
We are looking for multiple experienced Java Software Engineers (up to 9 roles) to join a high-performing engineering team within a leading retail banking organisation. You will be working on modern, cloud-native platforms delivering scalable digital banking solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to customer-facing applications, with a strong focus on microservices architecture, continuous delivery, and full-stack development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain microservices-based applications using Java and Spring Boot
- Build scalable and resilient solutions aligned with modern engineering best practices
- Develop engaging user interfaces using React and modern JavaScript frameworks
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and drive Continuous Deployment practices
- Deliver production-ready, cloud-native solutions on AWS
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, DevOps, and QA
- Ensure code quality through testing, automation, and code reviews

Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Java (core) and Spring Boot
- Proven track record building and maintaining microservices architectures
- Solid front-end development experience using React and modern JavaScript
- Experience working in CI/CD environments with Continuous Deployment
- Strong understanding of cloud-based development (AWS preferred)
- Experience delivering production-grade applications in agile environments

Desirable Experience
- Exposure to mobile banking platforms or digital banking products
- Experience within financial services / retail banking environments
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and tooling
