Software Engineer – Reference Data Platform
Location: London (Hybrid – 4 days per week in the office for 3 weeks of the month, 5 days for the final week.)
We're working with a leading quantitative trading and technology firm that is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Reference Data team. This team builds and maintains the systems responsible for acquiring, processing, and distributing market reference data used across the firm's research and trading platforms.
The role offers the opportunity to work on modernising critical production systems, with a particular focus on a large-scale Java/JDK upgrade programme alongside wider improvements to platform reliability, observability, and cloud-native infrastructure.
The Role
You'll be developing and maintaining distributed services responsible for ingesting and processing financial market data. The platform consists of containerised applications and scheduled workloads running on Kubernetes, providing high-quality reference data to quantitative researchers and trading systems.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
